Teacher Bio

Meet your teacher:

Hillary Davis

Master in Teaching from University of Washington 2000.

Sacramento State Clear Credential 2002.

Elementary Special Education Teacher with over 25 years experience.

I have taught kinder through 6th graders in Special Education classes in a variety of settings and intervention classes. I come to dyslexia tutoring with over 25 years of experience as a special education teacher and educator Kinder through high school.

My focus on dyslexia tutoring started when I was 6 years old and had just returned to the states. I struggled to learn to read. My parents took me for tutoring after school as well as receiving services and support at school. I did learn to read and compensate for my disability. I learned through patient teachers who helped me.

I learned to work extra hard. As I tell my students what took others in college an hour to do took me 2 or 3 hours. I learned to work exceedingly hard, which I feel has made me a more successful adult as I know how to put in the effort to get the work done.

My passion is to help students who, like me, struggled to learn to read. In my professional training and work in teaching I have used SIPPS or Systematic Instruction in Phonological Awareness, Phonics, and Sight Words, a comprehensive program designed to get students reading and teach all the phonological skills needed. It is considered highly effective for students with dyslexia and reading difficulties. It is an evidence based, structured literacy program that aligns with Orton-Gillingham principles, focusing on explicit systematic instruction in phonological awareness, spelling sounds and decoding.

*If you are concerned your child is struggling with learning to read Hillary can offer you a complimentary 60 minute session to diagnose your child’s reading issues.
